Wilkinson graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Florida in Political Science (1992). Go Gators!

His coaching career began in 1992 as an assistant at his Alma mater, Merritt island HS until 1998 with a one year stint at Eau Gallie HS in 1993. He then joined the college ranks where he was Assistant Offensive Line at the University of Massachusetts in 1999. He left for New Smyrna Beach High School as Offensive Coordinator in 2000 and 2001.

Wilkinson then landed his first Head Coaching spot in 2002 at Brooksville Central HS where he remained for 3 years. He left Central in 2005, after achieving the best season in school history going 8-3. He then went on to take the head Coaching job at Cocoa HS. He led the Tigers to 10 District Championships, 11 Region Championships, 1 State Runner Up (2017) and 4 State Champs (08,09,10,16) while going 143-27. Wilkinson decided to go back to New Smyrna Beach HS as HC in 2018 where he has achieved a 47-28.

Wilkinson has coached numerous players that have gone on to play at all levels of college football and the NFL. He was enshrined in the FACA Hall of Fame and the Brevard County Hall of Fame. He has coached in under Armour All American Game and Semper Fidelis All American Game. He has an overall record of 210-71.

A native of Merritt Island, Florida Wilkinson and his wife Maura have two children Cooper (21) and Keegan (17).
